Yesterday I watched an interview of Ann Voskamp. In it, she covered writing, family, simple farm living, creativity, faith and the making of her book, One Thousand Gifts. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it. If you haven’t seen the interview, it’s worth the time.

The thing about the interview that struck the deepest chord in my heart was Ann’s fervent desire not for fame, not to be noticed, not for success or high traffic on her blog…
but her desire to stay hidden in the cross and overshadowed by grace, firmly standing on the name and love of Jesus Christ.
I just love that about her. It’s not pretentious. It’s an authentic desire that glistens through the spot light that’s been unexpectedly pointed in her direction. She actually seems to want to hide from the spotlight. How refreshing in this world that seems to value fame higher than most qualities.
Her heart appears to have found what is better, and she is on a journey to holding He who is better, closer and closer.
It’s because she’s figured out where true, abundant, and fulfilling life happens. It happens in being grateful- for the smallest moments. For His grace in the moments of real life.
It happens in the moments when our eyes are wide open. Wide open to see His love in the simple moments of life.
In the competition driven, traffic logged and politically saturated environment surrounding the DC area, I need to consistently remind myself to slow down; to live a life connected to what’s most important. I often revisit this video, and soak up this message.

Life is made up of moments.
Moments to know, to experience, to see His love.
To be fully present, right where we are.
To see Him, to see grace, to live fully awake. That’s my prayer today. To live fully awake to Him, and to all that He has called me to.
