“Why do you spend your money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good. And let your soul delight itself in abundance…come to Me and your soul shall live.” (Isaiah 55:2-3)
Do you long for more out of life? To be “filled up” with something that will last longer than the shopping spree “high” or the rush from getting new kitchen appliances or a new car or a new house or a new you fill in the blank? A fullness that will satisfy the deepest places?
Our lives are so full. But often so very hollow at the core. Why do we so easily, so quickly, so compulsively fill our lives with things that leave us empty? Even “good” things; even “church” things? I know, friend, me too. But one thing I’m sure of, there is hope for all of us.
“…to know the love of Christ, which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:19
We were distinctly created to know Him on an intimate, heart-to-heart level. To be found in Him and filled up with Him. Rooted and grounded and growing and thriving in His love in an up-close, everyday life kind of way. (Ephesians 3:14-19) Coming, knowing, listening, living moment-by-moment rooted in His love: that is the way to let our souls live.
When we feel a burning sensation in our hearts, a tugging to get away and be with Him, to know Him more, to read the Bible, to ask questions about Him, to just be near people who know Him… it is not a random emotion or a passing phase. It is the drawing of the Holy Spirit. (Luke 24:32) It’s the precious and holy gift of hunger and pursuit colliding. It’s a tangible sign that Love is actively wooing your heart.
Get face to face with God today. Respond to His tender pursuit. Steal away from the stuff and the lists and come away. (Song of Songs 2:10) That’s His invitation.
All of who we are is meant to be full with all that He is. Our souls, fully alive, filled with the God of all life.
He will meet us as we come. He will reveal Himself, the Bread of Life, and He promises to fill the hungry with good things. That’s just who He is.
“He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.” Psalm 107:9
Thank you God- that’s really who You are. More of You filling my life. That’s my prayer.
Amen.
